CanWell
Healthmix for Cancer Patients

Millets offer several benefits for cancer patients, primarily by acting as a nutrient-dense, functional food that helps in managing treatment side effects, boosting immunity, and potentially reducing cancer cell proliferation.

Health Benefits of Millets:

Rich in Antioxidants: Millets contain potent antioxidants like phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and tannins, which help combat oxidative stress and neutralize free radicals that can damage cells and contribute to cancer development.
High Dietary Fiber Content: The high fiber content in millets (both soluble and insoluble) is beneficial for gut health. It promotes regular bowel movements, aids in detoxification by helping flush out toxins and carcinogens, and has been linked to a reduced risk of colorectal cancer.
Low Glycemic Index (GI): Millets have a low GI, which means they cause a slower rise in blood sugar levels. This helps manage insulin levels, which is beneficial as high insulin levels are associated with an increased risk of certain cancers.
Immune System Support: Packed with essential minerals like zinc, magnesium, and iron, as well as B vitamins and amino acids, millets help support the immune system, which is crucial for patients undergoing treatments like chemotherapy.
Managing Chemotherapy Side Effects: Millets can help alleviate common side effects of chemotherapy, such as:
Gastrointestinal issues: Fiber content can help with constipation and diarrhea.
Fatigue: Their rich nutrient profile (protein, iron, amino acids) can help replenish lost energy and muscle mass.
Ulcers and mucositis: Certain millets like foxtail possess gastro-protective properties that may help prevent and protect against chemotherapy-induced ulcers.
Bone health: Finger millet is an excellent source of calcium, which is vital for preventing bone loss (osteoporosis) that can be a side effect of some treatments.
Anti-proliferative Properties: Some Lab studies said to have shown that specific compounds in millets can induce cell death (apoptosis) and inhibit the proliferation of various cancer cells, including breast, colon, liver, and prostate cancer cells.
Quinoa: Its high nutritional value, which helps maintain strength, support the immune system, and manage side effects of treatment.
Raw Banana Powders: Contains high levels of resistant starch and beneficial phytochemicals, shows promise for cancer prevention and may offer supportive benefits for cancer patients, particularly concerning gastrointestinal health.
Navara Red Rice: Nutritious food that contains beneficial compounds with potential anti-cancer properties
Black Rice: The antioxidants and phytochemicals found in black rice have been shown to possess anti-cancer properties, inhibiting the growth and spread of cancer cells and reducing the risk of certain types of cancer, including breast, colon, and liver cancer.
Rolled Oats: High fiber content, complex carbohydrates for sustained energy, and protective antioxidants. They help in managing treatment side effects, supporting the immune system, and promoting overall recovery.
Wallnuts: Reduces inflammation, supports a healthy gut microbiome, and potentially altering gene expression related to tumor growth.
Almonds: Rich nutritional profile and antioxidant/anti-inflammatory properties, may help support the body during and after treatment.
Pistachios: High content of antioxidants, fiber, and specific phytochemicals may help in managing side effects of treatment, supporting recovery, and potentially reducing the risk of certain cancer types.
Brazil nuts: Benefits for cancer patients primarily due to their high selenium content and other antioxidants
Turmeric: Manages Treatment Side Effects
Dry Ginger: A supportive agent to help manage side effects of conventional treatments, particularly chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV)
Black Pepper: Its active compound piperine, has shown promising anticancer effects in laboratory studies.
Black Cumin: Its primary active component, thymoquinone (TQ), show promise in laboratory studies for offering several potential benefits for cancer patients, primarily as a supportive agent
Cinnamon: Its active compounds may have anti-cancer properties through various mechanisms, including inducing cancer cell death and reducing tumor growth.
Cloves: Promising anti-cancer properties in laboratory studies, such as inhibiting tumor growth and promoting cancer cell death
Oregano: Inhibiting cancer cell growth, promoting cancer cell death (apoptosis), and acting as powerful antioxidants
Pomegranate Seeds: Contains high concentrations of polyphenols, tannins, and anthocyanins that may offer several supportive benefits for cancer patients.
